Egerton Road
A ground floor extension to a Victorian terraced house in Bishopston, Bristol. The original kitchen and living spaces felt disconnected from the south-facing rear garden; obscured by a series of small spaces in the outrigger. The extension created a new living area to the rear, enlarged the kitchen and dining space, and connected the house to the garden through full-width glazing.

The new rear elevation is designed around maximising the benefit of the south facing garden. Large sliding doors span the full width of the extension, with roof lights above that carry daylight back through the centre of the plan.
A key design decision was ensuring that from the entrance hall, a view through to the garden is established the moment you step inside. This gives the house a sense of depth and openness beyond its modest footprint. Arranging the open plan space as a sequence of connected zones rather than a single undifferentiated room gives each space character, while retaining sightlines across the new volume.
